This project encourages students to use pencils in different ways. The point of the pencil is used to trace the contours of the subject (Mona Lisa) and the side of the pencil to capture the shadows. Not only do they hold the pencil in different ways, but apply different amounts of pressure. Here, both approaches are explored on two pieces of tracing paper, and layered to create a unified image.
